Pokhara serves as the secondary base for a handful of western routes — we've noted those below.

This guide lays out every helicopter tour route currently operated by Heli Everest, what each one actually involves, and the factors that determine what you'll pay. Use the comparison table for a quick overview, then jump to the section that matches what you're looking for.

Mountain & Base Camp Tours

The most-requested route we operate. You fly from Kathmandu past Lukla, over the Khumbu Icefall, and land near Everest Base Camp (weather permitting) for photos at roughly 5,300+ meters before returning. Most charters include a stop in Syangboche or Kalapatthar viewpoint and a breakfast or tea stop at a high-altitude lodge.

A shorter, more relaxed alternative to the full EBC run. You land at Kongde or a similar viewpoint with a direct line of sight to Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, and enjoy breakfast at altitude before flying back. Ideal for travelers who want the Everest panorama without committing to a full-day charter.

Gokyo's turquoise glacial lakes sit in a quieter corner of the Khumbu, away from the EBC crowds. The flight gives you Cho Oyu and Everest views from a different angle, with a landing near the lake itself.

Pilgrimage & Spiritual Charters

One of our most popular pilgrimage routes. Muktinath, sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists, sits at nearly 3,800 meters in the Mustang region. The flight replaces what would otherwise be a multi-day trek or long jeep ride, getting you to darshan and back in a single day.

A high-altitude alpine lake considered sacred to Lord Shiva, especially significant during the Janai Purnima festival. The helicopter route cuts what is normally a multi-day trek down to a few hours.

Flying into the Langtang valley to the Kyanjin Gumba monastery, with close-up views of Langtang Lirung and the surrounding glaciers. A good option for travelers who want a monastery and mountain experience without the full Langtang trek.

A lower-altitude cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in eastern Nepal. Because it sits at a much lower elevation than Muktinath or Gosaikunda, this route is generally faster and more accessible.

The birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha), on the southern plains near the Indian border. Given the distance from Kathmandu, this is typically a full-day charter rather than a half-day trip.

Nepal's largest lake, tucked into the remote far-western mountains. This is one of the longer-range charters we operate and is usually arranged as a custom full-day or overnight itinerary.

Scenic Valley Tours

A short 20–30 minute scenic flight over the temples, palaces, and rooftops of the Kathmandu Valley — Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, and Durbar Square from above. A good option if you have limited time or want a taste of helicopter flight before committing to a longer mountain charter.

Best Time of Year to Fly

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the clearest skies and most reliable mountain visibility across all routes. Pilgrimage routes like Muktinath and Gosaikunda also see seasonal spikes around specific festivals. Monsoon season (June–August) brings more cloud cover and weather-related delays, particularly for high-altitude landings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a helicopter tour from Kathmandu cost?

Pricing depends on the route, whether you book a private charter or shared seat, and group size. Short scenic flights like the Kathmandu Valley tour are the most affordable; high-altitude landings like Everest Base Camp or full-day charters like Lumbini and Upper Mustang cost more due to flight time, fuel, and altitude. Contact us for a quote specific to your dates and group size.

Which helicopter tour from Kathmandu doesn't require trekking experience?

All of our helicopter tours are designed for travelers regardless of trekking experience or fitness level — that's the core advantage of flying rather than walking in. Routes like Kathmandu Valley and Halesi Mahadev are especially well suited to first-time flyers, families, and senior travelers.

Can I combine two destinations in one charter?

Yes. Many of our pilgrimage and mountain routes can be combined into a single custom itinerary — for example, Muktinath with a Pokhara Valley stop, or Everest Base Camp with a Kongde breakfast landing. Let us know what you'd like to see and we'll build the itinerary around it.

Is helicopter travel safe in Nepal?

Safety is the top priority of every charter we operate. Our fleet, pilot training, and operational protocols are detailed on our Safety page, including our voluntary incident reporting system (VIRS) and published safety bulletins.
